The Rome Open is a Tier I tennis tournament contested by the members of the WTA, one week after the conclusion of the men’s Rome Masters. The tournament is played in May on clay at the historic Foro Italico in Rome.
The Rome Open has been contested since 1930. The event was first hosted in Milan in 1930, and later moved to the Foro Italico. Abandoned during the Second World War, the Rome Open was resumed in 1950. Today the tournament features a draw of 56 players and offers $1,3 million in prize money.
