German Open

The German Open is a Tier I tennis event contested annually by the members of the WTA Tour. The tournament is one of the oldest in the world, and is played in May on outdoor clay court at the Rott-Weiss Tennis Centre in Berlin.

The German Open was first contested in 1896, and has always been an event restricted to female players. The German Open features a relatively large draw of 56 players, and offers $1,3 million in prize money. With the Hamburg Open set to lose its Masters Series status, the German Open will become the most prestigious tennis tournament in the country.
