The Family Circle Cup is a Tier I tennis tournament contested by the members of the WTA Tour. The event is hosted by the Family Circle Center in Charleston, South Carolina, and is one of the few tournaments in professional tennis played on green clay courts.
The Family Circle Cup has a history stretching back to 1973, when it was first played at the Sea Pines Plantation on Hilton Heads Island. The event has always attracted strong fields, and 56 players participate in the main draw every year, competing for $1,3 million in prize money.
Family Circle Cup Betting
Tier I events allow punters to place their money on some of the finest players in the WTA. Although betting market coverage is not as extensive as for men’s Masters Series events, punters will still be able to access the more popular tennis betting markets when betting on the Family Circle Cup.
Family Circle Cup Winners
American players dominated the Family Circle Cup during its early years, with Chris Evert setting the tournament record between 1974 and 1985 by winning the event eight times. Evert’s incredible run included five consecutive victories between 1974 and 1978. Steffi Graf was the only player to come close to matching this record, taking four Family Circle Cup winners titles between 1986 and 1993.
