The AT&T National is a prestigious annual PGA Tour event held over the 4th of July weekend. The tournament is hosted by Tiger Woods and benefits his charity foundation. The event is a recent addition to the PGA Tour and was created to replace the International.
The AT&T National is hosted by the par 70 Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland. The event is an open field tournament, and puts up over $6 million in prize money. The hosting venue for the AT&T National will be reconsidered prior to the 2011 tournament.
AT&T National History
The AT&T National is one of a small selection of PGA Tournaments to have been played in the Washington D.C. area. Tournaments played prior to the AT&T Classic include the Kemper Open played between 1980 and 1986, and the once off Booz Allen Classic played in 2005.
The AT&T Classic was first announced in 2007 as a replacement for the recently cancelled International tournament. Tiger Woods offered to host the event, and the Congressional Country Club was chosen as the venue for the AT&T Classic due to the club’s long and distinguished history, as well the lack of other major tournaments in the area.
AT&T National Betting
The AT&T National is scheduled during the peak of the golf season, between the US Open and the Open Championship. This has resulted in the tournament being somewhat overshadowed by competition in the majors and hence does not attract betting specials or special betting markets.
However, the majority of sportsbooks do provide a selection of the most popular betting markets for the event, and punters have the opportunity to bet on a larger field of golfers, with bets on tournament winners offering better odds than similar betting markets for the majors.
