The Arnold Palmer Invitational is one of the most prestigious regular season events on the PGA Tour. The event is a restricted field event, and features the top 70 players on the PGA Tour money list from the previous season.
The tournament offers one of the biggest purses of any regular season event, with $5,8 million dollars on offer to the most successful competitors. The Arnold Palmer Invitational is played in March on the par 70 course at Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club and Lodge in Florida.
Arnold Palmer Invitational History
The Arnold Palmer Invitational evolved out of the Florida Citrus Open Invitation, first contested in 1966. In 1979 the tournament was moved to the Bay Hill club and lodge, and was renamed accordingly. The original event was a full-field tournament, and was renowned for producing unanticipated wins by long-odds outsiders.
In 1984 the PGA Tour elevated the Arnold Palmer Invitational to elite invitational status, drastically improving the quality of the field. During the next two decades the sponsorship of the tournament changed hands several times, as the event continued to grow in prestige. The tournament was named after Arnold Palmer, legendary golfer and owner of the Bay Hill facilities, in 2007.
Arnold Palmer Invitational Betting
Golf fans and punters will enjoy access to a full range of golf betting markets during the Arnold Palmer Invitational. The tournament is part of the packed schedule which comprises the annual Florida Swing, and as such does not always attract the recognition it deserves from bookmakers in terms of suitable specials and free bets.
As an early season event, the Arnold Palmer Invitational is not always the easiest golf tournament to call. While top seeds routinely do well at the event, it is not unusual for their less fancied rivals to take the title. While an each way bet on Tiger Woods is rarely wasted, punters may want to check out 3-ball and match betting markets when placing money on this event.
William Hill are the GrandDaddy of online UK bookmakers - and are now offering a free bet of £25 on a cash match basis. To claim this offer simply open an account, place a bet and they will credit your account after your first bet - up to £25.Arnold Palmer Invitational Winners
