The PGA European Tour

The PGA European Tour is ranked alongside the American PGA Tour as an elite professional golf tour. The PGA European Tour organises tournaments in both Europe and other parts of the world, including Africa and the Pacific and is renowned for attracting the top golfing talent from Commonwealth countries.

In recent years the PGA European Tour has competed steadily with the PGA Tour in terms of attracting top players. During the past decade up to five of the world’s top ten golfers have competed in the PGA European Tour at any given time. Many PGA European Tour players also qualify for and participate in PGA Tour events in the United States.

PGA European Tour - Tournaments

The PGA European Tour hosts over forty golf tournaments annually. Unlike the PGA Tour, the PGA European Tour does not allocate players points towards an overarching tour championship. Instead players on the PGA European Tour are ranked according to the Order of Merit, based on prize money won during the season.

PGA European Tour players also participate in the three PGA hosted World Golf Championships.

The two biggest events contested solely by PGA European Tour members are:

• The Barclays Scottish Open, which offers the highest cash prize for a sole-sanctioned event on the PGA European Tour.
• The BMW PGA Championship, originally known as the British PGA Championship, is the PGA European Tour’s official player championship event.

The Ryder Cup: Co-sanctioned with the PGA, the Ryder Cup is a match play championship pitting the best players in Europe against the best players in the United States.
